A creator subscription is a recurring payment model where fans pay a monthly or periodic fee to access a specific creator's content, community, or perks. It differs from one-time purchases or ad-supported platforms because the relationship between creator and subscriber is ongoing and direct.
Subscription models have become the dominant way independent creators earn a stable income, and understanding them helps explain why platforms compete so hard over payout rates, exclusivity rules, and how much control creators keep over their own audience.
